Dragon Gate Chong

Quzhou, China

Located at the junction of the four provinces, Quzhou has the characteristics of Anhui, Jiangxi, Fujian and Zhejiang provinces of geography, history, economy and culture are mixed here. Quzhou is not only the Quzhou of Zhejiang, but also the Quzhou of the four provinces. Inclusion is Quzhou's best card. Quzhou is also rich in natural beauty. Jianglang mountain in Quzhou, the “Three-pan stone” soaring from the ground. It is also the only world natural heritage site in Zhejiang province. Quzhou is a famous historical and cultural city with the best-preserved ancient state-level cities in the south of the Yangtze River. Astronomical Tower, Wenchang Pavilion is also a well-known historical and cultural monuments. How can we use architecture to depict such a city with culture, history, wonders and tolerance? Our “Dragon Gate Chong” is a response to these characteristics of Quzhou. We have transformed the fusion and inclusiveness of the city of Quzhou into the fusion and inclusiveness of architecture. In the architecture we designed, we can see: the integration of architecture and landscape, the symbiosis of human and nature, and the convergence of culture from the region. We respond to Quzhou's rich natural resources in architectural form. The two towers rise up like“Three valves stone”. The poise of the house comes from the rich topography of Quzhou. The layered form of the tower is the result of our interpretation of Quzhou's cultural heritage in the language of modern architecture. In Quzhou, there is a saying that goes, “If you don't see the Tower of the Heavenly King, your eyes will be filled with tears.”. The Heavenly King's tower was once a symbol of Quzhou. Today, the Dragon Gate Chong, with its modern architectural language, is like a successor to the Heavenly King Pagoda and will become a symbol of Quzhou.

“Dragon Gate Chong” not only draws on the spirit of Quzhou, but also effectively responds to the characteristics of the venue. There is a strong central axis in the SITE-A Garden Gallery. It's connected to the West Quzhou station on one end, and the observation tower on Lake Wentley on the other. The site is the end of the garden gallery and the beginning of the Wenli Lake Landscape. Will the landscaping gallery of the Garden Gallery End at Wenli Lake? Could you introduce the view of the Garden Gallery to the Lakeside? Can we use the building to continue the garden gallery, and integrate its landscape with the lake? The answer is yes. We will reverse the architectural form. The lower level landscape terrace faces the garden porch, which is the continuation of the garden porch. The landscape terrace gradually turns to Wenli Lake as the number of floors increases. By twisting the building, we extend the axis of the garden gallery into the air, where the views on both sides of the site converge to form an empty island in the air. This soaring axis not only brings the landscape to the air, but also symbolizes the prosperity of Quzhou.
